In year 3, we have started the Djembe course. The Djembe is one of West Africa's best known instruments. The goblet-shaped drum is traditionally carved from a single piece of African hardwood and topped with an animal skin as a drumhead.
For the first two lessons we played the cyclic patterns using three striking techniques and concentrating on rhythm, dynamics and playing in time. This week we sang a welcome song in African and played an ostinato to the song. Next week we will compose and perform our own three part piece. Listen to Wales class performing ''Fanga Alafia''.
