Year 3 vs Year 4 Times Table Rock Stars Battle

 Well done to all of the children who took part in the Times table Rock Stars Battle between year 3 and year 4. The winning class was Wales in year 3.

Wales TTRS Battle

 Well done to the girls of Wales class who won the TTRS Battle this week. 

 

The top three girls were Zuzanna, Janvi and Sandra. The top three boys were Ignacy, Donas and Donovan.

This week in Wales class the boys are battling the girls to see who can achieve the most points. The competition is running until next Thursday 10th November. We will also announce the top 3 class players.

Well Done to Maximilian in year 4!

We are celebrating an amazing achievement for Maximilian in year 4. He achieved 2nd place in the UK for World Math Day 2022. After scoring the second highest points on Mathletics he was awarded this trophy today!

Mathletics Competition

 

As we are all learning from home at the moment , we thought we would run an in school Mathletics competition. Each week we will be publishing on the blog and the school Facebook page the 5 children from Reception/Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, who have earnt the most points each week. The scores will run from Friday each week until the following Thursday.

The winning class will also be published.

Mathletics Competition

Well done to all of you who took part in last weeks Mathletics competition. This was a worldwide competition, with schools competing from countries such as Japan, America, Mexico, France, Italy, Ireland and Malaysia. In total 647 schools took part. We are proud to say that Mead came in 80th position over all, which is an amazing achievement.

The 2 children from each year group with the highest scores were rewarded with a certificate and a prize. The winners were:

Reception: Domas from Barbados and Nathan K from Jamaica



Year 1 : Taha and Nuhaa in Palau


Year 2: Daniel K and Majus in Madagascar






Year 3: Max in Scotland and Arjya in Wales

Each week we will publish a weekly 'maths challenge'. These challenges will consist of short practical activities for your child to complete at home and will help your child to see maths as fun. The challenges relate to the different areas of learning within our curriculum: Numbers and Shape, space and measures (SSM). You can repeat the activity as many times as your child wants to and please feel free to change and adapt the ideas to suit your child's interest, what you have in your house and their current level of development. If your child would like to represent their thinking on paper let them do so in their own way. For example, they might not want to write numbers, but they might want to draw to communicate their mathematical thinking. Please remember you can share via Evidence me any work your child does.

                                                                     

Using sticks, pebbles or everyday objects such as pegs and buttons can you make some 2D shapes?


What shape did you make? Can you tell a grown-up about your shape? Describe your shape, talk about it's properties.

Can you make another shape? A triangle, square, hexagon?

Draw the shapes you have made? Can you label them?

Here are some questions you could ask to help promote your child's thinking:

• What shape can you make using the sticks?

• Can you make a triangle?

• How is my triangle similar to your triangle? How is it different?

• Can you make a shape with four corners? How many sticks did you use? Does this shape have any corners? How many?

• Are there any shapes you can’t make using the sticks? Why not?

• What could we use to make a circle?

• Can you tell me how to make a rectangle? What do I need? What can you tell me about the shapes we made?

• How do you know this shape is a triangle? Could this shape be a circle? Why? Why not?

Walk around your house. How many shapes can you see?

Can you find a cube?

Can you find a sphere?

Can you find a cuboid?

Can you find a cylinder?

Mathletics

Have you attempted your Mathletics challenges yet this month. Are you in with a chance of receiving your certificate at the end of the month. If you do not have your username and password, then please speak to your class teacher or see Mrs Todd. 

Remember you also have a chance at challenging other children withing the school. 

Bronze certificate = 1000 points

Silver Certificates = 5 Bronze Certificates (1 per week)

Gold Certificate = 4 Silver Certificates

Points are awarded across Mathletics in a number of ways:

• 1 point per correct answer in Live Mathletics
• 2 points per correct answer within the student’s bonus level of Live Mathletics
• 10 points per correct answer within individual Mathletics curriculum activities
• 20 points per correct answer within a curriculum Are You Ready? or Topic Test

February Mathletics Awards

Well done to all of the children that attempted Mathletics during February. The following children in Key Stage 2 received their Bronze award Alexandra and Amelia from Chile class, Wilson in Argentina, Pritika in Brazil, Adem, Pawel and Wajeeha in Mexico, Tomi and Anya in Canada, Ellie in U.S.A, Dinuki and Benjamin in Greece, Andriana in Germany, Daniel and Milana in Italy, Ema and Ithiel in Scotland, Amin and Leona in Northern Ireland and Kevin in Wales.

Well done to Alexandra in Chile, who also received her silver award. 

The winning class for February was Chile.

Look out for your flags on the Mathletics board outside U.S.A classroom.

Next week we will continue to be identifying one more/less than a given number.  Here are a few challenges which your child might choose to complete:
Using everyday objects such as pegs, cereal, buttons provide children with a number and they have to identify the number which is 1 more/less.

Roll a dice and ask children to record which is 1 more/less than the number.


Have objects of different colours of sizes and ask children to sort them. Which do you have more of? Which has the least?

Encourage children to record their answers to help them with their number formation.
