Year 5 Book Art - 3D Sculptures

In year 5 we have been exploring book art. We gathered books that were to be recycled and instead  brought them back to life in 3D. We tried to show the personality or character of the book and kept loosely to the original story. We wanted to upcycle the book in a new, creative way.
Our project included  origami, folding, glueing, twisting and cutting paper, among other techniques.
It provided an exciting opportunity to explore transformation, with paper being a great material for exploring form.

Brazil meets Antarctica!

In Brazil class we conducted an experiment using ziploc bags and margarine to recreate the effect of blubber in Emperor Penguins. As well as our experiment we watched a fascinating documentary narrated by David Attenborough as we prepare to write our Non-chronological report on Emperor Penguins in English in the coming weeks!

Year 5 meet Russell Kane!

Along with other year groups in KS2, Year 5 had the privilege of taking part in a Zoom with Russell Kane talking all about his new book: Pet selector! We loved hearing about how Russell has always loved writing stories and meeting some of his furry favourites at home.

Money, money, money!

This week Brazil have begun our money unit in Maths. We've had lots of fun using manipulatives and describing the relationship between coins of different values. Here we are hard at work:

Year 5 discover Space!

This half term, Year 5 have begun their Space topic in Science. So far we have written mnemonics to remember the order of the planets, researched and presented information about each planet and made our own scientific model of the Solar System! Here is some of our fantastic work!

Brazil visits The British Museum

On the last day of half term, Brazil visited the The British Museum to finish our History topic: The Kingdom of Benin. We saw many artefacts, videos and fascinating art work as well as completing activities all about the items we found! We had a fantastic day and had members of the public tell us how polite we were! We are very proud of you Brazil Class!
