Iron Man

In our English lessons, we have been looking at the book ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes. In our experience day, the pupils had to retell the story through dance. They explored different characters such as the Iron Man, the angry farmers and the spacebat-angel-dragon.

 A massive well done to the Mead Primary New Age Kurling team for winning the London Youth Games! They had previously won the Havering competition and had the chance to represent Havering against the other boroughs of London. A huge achievement to win. Additionally, a big thank you to Mr Stanbridge for his coaching.

Girls football

 We have made a pledge to get as many girls as possible playing football. With it being International Women's Day, we have hosted a girl's only football session at lunchtime. #LetGirlsPlay

Football awards

A huge congratulations to Leo in year three for winning two incredible football trophies. One was for top goal scorer and the second was for best attitude! We are all very proud of you!

Tag Rugby Competition

                                       

Well done to the year 5 & 6 children who attended a tag rugby competition yesterday. They showed lots of enthusiasm and great team work, ending the competition undefeated and overall winners. 

They now go on to the tag rugby finals next week.

Year 6 play leader training

 

A massive well done to all the new Year 6 Play Leaders who completed their training this week. The play leaders will be leading activities at playtime and helping sports activities throughout the school. Additionally, I would like to share the feedback from the Playleader Trainer -
The Sports Crew at Mead are a credit to the school . Attentive , sensible , kind and enthusiastic. They listened well throughout the session and played all the practical warm up games in true , fair spirit .
When the year 3 class came to join us, again they were very helpful towards the younger children and encouraged them throughout the session.
When we did our media investigation & took a look at the virtual work, they were very forthcoming with ideas and feedback . It was such a happy morning for everyone!
For me it was an absolute delight to work with these children at Mead this morning.
The young lady that escorted me back through the school to the school office was very polite and chatted to me all the way to the door .
I would return to work at Mead in a heart beat.

Year 6 Celebrate Black History Month

The theme for Black History Month this year was "Saluting Our Sisters". Year 6 decided to celebrate British, black female athletes that have broken records, excelled in their field and become an inspiration to many. Earlier in the week, year 6 took part in a circuit session where they got the opportunity to train like Nicola Adams (boxing), Tessa Sanderson (javelin) and Dame Kelly Holmes (long distance running). The children's effort was superb! Later, the children then researched a trailblazing female of their choice and created a newspaper article identifying why they are so influential.

101 Star Jumps for Alopecia

Last week year 5, with the support of Mr Stanbridge, completed 101 Star Jumps for Alopecia awareness month. This is an important event for members of our yeargroup. Everyone throughly enjoyed themselves, whilst support a very worthy cause.

Year Three's Sports Day

The year 3 children had so much fun at their sports day today. They took part in lots of different activities and each class worked as a team to earn as many points as they could. The victorious team were ..........Wales Class. Well done to all of the children and thank you to the parents/ carers/ nans/ grandads and anyone else who came to support the children!

Year 1 Sports Day

 

Today was Year 1’s sports day and we are really lucky that the rain held off for us to have a fun filled afternoon. The three classes competed against each other to win points in a variety of different activities including; bean bag throw, sack race and a running race. The children enjoyed showing everything they have learned this year to their grownups and we were so happy that so many adults turned up to watch the competition. This year’s winners are Palau, followed by New Zealand class in second place and Fiji in third. Year 1 really enjoyed their sports day!
