In year 4 we have been creating our own Mead charters. Each child included the rules they valued the most. They took great ownership in sharing the importance of their own Mead charters and were passionate about following those chosen rules.

In Citizenship this week, Year 5 were looking at the importance of rules and roles when completing a group task or project. First we tried to build the tallest tower with no plan, jobs or rules - it was a disaster! We then gave each person a role to perform (task manager, time keeper, architect) and tried again. We were much more successful and discussed how rules and guidelines can help us to perform much more efficiently and get a lot more done! Team work makes the dream work!
In Citizenship this week, we have been learning about emergency aid and how to help in a crisis by staying calm and thinking quickly! Here are some examples of our first aiders at work!
This week in Year 5, we have been looking at the rules that help make teamwork as effective as possible. First we tried to create a tower without any rules or plan. We then tried again with everyone in the team having a role to play and starting with a discussion and plan for success. Safe to say teamwork makes the dream work!

As part of our Citizenship lesson we looked at individuality. As part of our lesson, we worked in pairs to make potato people. We designed them and then gave them a potato identity card detailing their name, job, address and likes and dislikes.
The potato people were all very different!!
Ms Holmes then came in to class to judge the potato people today. It was a very difficult decision.

3rd Place - Lewis
Everyone else was highly commended for their efforts! Well done Greece class!
This week year 1 took part in an anti-bullying workshop to
help celebrate anti-bullying week. We learned all about what bullying is and
how we can help. During the workshop we discussed how everyone is different but
this is what makes us fantastic. The children then thought about what makes
them fantastic and shared this with the class. We then talked about the story
of the ugly duckling and how he must have felt in the story. We discussed how
the other ducklings were very unkind and what we could have done to help the
duckling. The children acted out how the ugly duckling would have felt. Year 1
really enjoyed their workshop and learned a lot about how to stop bullying.
Year One have had great fun preparing for and celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. They created bunting to decorate the school, wrote invitations and made Union flags to wave at the party, as well as making their own jewelled crowns to wear. The children also planned and wrote their own version of the story The Queen's Hat by Steve Antony. In their stories the Queen visited Mead and when her hat blew away the children chased it around the school before finding it on either Ms Holmes', Mrs Pidgeon's or Fred's head!!! At the party the children gave a great rendition of Reach by S Club Seven and enjoyed watching all of the other year groups perform their songs. The sunny afternoon celebrations ended with cake - a perfect day!
