Coin rolling fun

There was cheering and words of encouragement coming from the KS1 hall today as the children all participated in the 10p Easter Egg roll competition. It was great to see everyone taking part and supporting their friends. A HUGE thank you to Friends of Mead for organising this event and for all of your donations which are helping to fundraise towards a school library. Here is just a snapshot of some of the fun had today!

Thank you for supporting comic relief

On behalf of everyone at Mead we just wanted to say a HUGE thank you for showing your support and wearing red for comic relief today. The children all looked amazing, there was a sea of red from hair being dyed, face paints to red noses. Due to your incredible generosity we managed to raise an incredible £448.20 which will help support this amazing cause. Thank you again!

Comic relief

Come and show your support for comic relief next Friday 18th March. At Mead we will be having a wear red for Red Nose Day. Children can come to school wearing something red, it can be anything from a t-shirt, pair of socks, a red nose anything red that you have can be worn! Any donations you can make towards this great cause will be much appreciated.

Sport Relief in Malta

The children in Malta class took part in the sponsored run for Sport Relief today. They were very excited. Gabby, Jacob and Joseph wanted to keep running! We were lucky to get back to class before the hail storm. Thank you to the children who raised money for this fantastic charity.

On Thursday 12th March the children in key stages 1 and 2 will be completing a sponsored run to raise money for Sport Relief.  A letter will be going home today, along with a sponsor form. Please look out for it in your child's bag.

Weekly Newsletter-13th December 2019


Dear Parents,
It has been lovely to see so many of you attending our Christmas concerts this week-I’m sure you’ll agree with me the hard work put in by pupils and staff was well worth while-The performances were exceptional and how confident were our lovely children acting/singing solos in front of so many people!

Diary Dates
Monday 16th December-Jamaica class are visiting Lidl this morning and St Lucia this afternoon. Our year 1 pupils are visiting St Paul’s church this afternoon.
Tuesday 17th December-Nursery christmas party day. Christingle assemblies for KS1 and KS2 pupils this morning while Barbados class visit Lidl. Party day for our year 2 pupils. After school our choir are singing at St Paul’s church

Wednesday 18th December-Christmas dinner day. Reception classes are visiting St Paul’s church this morning and pupils in Malta class are having their Christmas party this afternoon

Thursday 19th December- We are looking forward to welcoming parents/carers for Christmas carols in the playground at 14:30
Friday 20th December-Last day of school for this term

We are aware that one of our families is having a very hard time. All the children have come through Mead, the youngest is still here, and mum is very poorly and in need of a specialised operation. We have witnessed in the past how supportive the local community is and therefore have decided to collect donations today Christmas jumper day and at our Christmas events to support the family.

Havering Catering Services
Week beginning Monday 16th December is week 2 on the Havering catering services menu. All meals are served with unlimited salad and vegetables and cost £2.25.

Please be reminded to top up your child’s catering account as we cannot provide dinners for pupils whose accounts exceed a debt of £10.
Havering catering Service now provide a breakfast club for Mead pupils. For £1.50 your child can have a bacon or sausage sandwich or beans on toast with cereal or toast or fresh fruit or yoghurt plus a drink.
We will also have speciality days when other items such as pancakes and muffins will be available.
In order for you to book a place you will need to deposit the money in advance in your Squid account.

Please do not send your child to school to attend breakfast club if there are no funds in your account as they will not be admitted.

Well done to Chile class who had the highest attendance in Y5&6 at 95.7% . N.Ireland had the highest attendance in LKS2 and overall at 97.2% and Egypt had the highest attendance in KS1 at 96.6%. Well done to them!. The overall attendance was disappointing at only 93.5%which is well below our target!

Raffle Winners!

Thank you to everybody who kindly bought a raffle ticket to raise money for the farm. We were able to raise a fantastic £494 which will go towards food and treatment for our animals.

Weekly Newsletter-29th November 2019


Dear Parents,
Time seems to be flying by and Christmas preparations are well on their way in school. I can hear the children rehearsing from my room, the singing is beautiful and we are looking forward to sharing our performances with you.

We are aware that one of our families is having a very hard time. All the children have come through Mead, the youngest is still here, and mum is very poorly and in need of a specialised operation. We have witnessed in the past how supportive the local community is and therefore have decided to collect donations on Christmas jumper day (Friday 13th December) and at our Christmas events to support the family.

Diary Dates
Monday 2nd December -Wales class are visiting the local library today and Mexico class will be spending the afternoon at The Queen’s Theatre. Some of our nursery children will be going to the post box and Year 6 pupils will spend the afternoon on the Mead Farm. Our choir will be singing at the Christmas Lights Switch on at Hilldene shopping centre after school.
Tuesday 3rd December-Some year 4 pupils will be attending a Public Speaking workshop at Mead while some more of our nursery children will be going to a post box. Today it’s year 5’s turn to spend the afternoon on the farm. Parents/carers of our year 3 pupils are invited into school between 14:00 and 15:00 for their showcase. After school our netball team will be taking on a team from Broadford-Good luck Guys!
Wednesday 4th December-Some of our pupils will be going with Miss Calitz to take part in a bowling competition and Scotland and N. Ireland classes will be visiting the local library. Year 3 pupils will be visiting the Mead farm this afternoon. Parents/carers of our year 4 pupils are invited into school between 14:00 and 15:00 for their showcase.
Thursday 5th December-We are holding a coffee morning for parents of our SEN pupils between 9:00 and 10:00 this morning and parents/carers of our year 6 pupils are invited into school between 14:00 and 15:00 for their showcase
Friday 6th December- Reception parents/carers are invited into school for a stay and play session between 8:30 and 9:00. Two of our year 4 classes will be attending Public Speaking workshops in school.

Attendance Update
Well done to Mexico class who had the highest attendance in Y5&6 at 96.2% . Wales had the highest attendance in LKS2 at 96.4% and Egypt had the highest attendance in KS1 and overall at 97.7% . Well done to them! The overall attendance was slightly down on last week but still an improvement on previous weeks at 95.3%.

CHILDREN IN NEED TOMORROW


Don't forget that tomorrow (Friday) is Children in Need day.  Children may wear their ears, wristbands, badges etc to school but must also wear school uniform.  The last few items of merchandise will be on sale at the school gates tomorrow morning if you still wish to purchase any Pudsey goodies.  The items still available are:  gold or silver Pudsey badge - £1, Pudsey wristband - £1, Pudsey light up keyring - £2.
Remember to watch bbc one and two tomorrow evening from 7.30 to see how your money really makes a difference to children in the UK.

CHILDREN IN NEED


The Children in Need merchandise has finally been delivered (hooray) and has been given out to the children today.  Thank you so much for your patience.  To anyone who purchased Pudsey or Blush ears :  the price went up from £2 to £2.50 from when the original letter and blog was sent out.  Could you please send in the extra 50p as soon as possible - sorry.  We still have a few items left so if you would like to make a purchase please send the money in tomorrow (Thursday) and children can buy their items from Miss Redgrave in Palau class. The children may wear their badges and/or ears on Children in Need day (Friday).  Thank you for your generosity.  We will post the total amount raised as soon as we have counted the money!

A VIP comes to Mead!

There was great excitement at school today when the children received a visit from Pudsey.  All of the children, from the little ones in Nursery to the eldest in Year 6, had a lovely time meeting him and getting a hug or a high five.
"Pudsey was so soft!" exclaimed Kydeigh in year one.
Don't worry Germany class - Pudsey will be in next Wednesday to meet you.














A BIG THANK YOU FROM PUDSEY!


Thank you so much to everyone who sent money in today to buy Children in Need merchandise.  Unfortunately, there has been a delay and we are still waiting for the items to be delivered.  We have taken the money and orders and will take the items to the children's classes as soon as they arrive.  We are very sorry for the delay and thank you for your patience.  The children were still able to meet the main bear himself today for a hug or a high five (photos to follow).

Weekly Newsletter - 4th October 2019


Dear Parents,
All of our reception and nursery children are now in school and have settled brilliantly. We are thrilled that they are part of our school community and we hope that pupils and their families feel at home here at Mead already.

A massive thank you to parents of our Reception pupils for attending the Macmillan coffee morning and for your contribution of cakes and donations for such a worthy cause. We raised £70 and are grateful to all who contributed.

Our recent Jeans for Genes Day raised a total of £350 and on behalf of this worthy charity I want to thank you for your support.

Harvest Festival
We are holding our Harvest Festival assembly on Tuesday 29th October. This year, once again we are going to give your donations to the Harold Hill Foodbank who do such a wonderful job helping local residents in times of need.
We would therefore be grateful if children could start bringing in donations from Monday 14th October. The Foodbank have specifically asked for non-perishable items as they cannot pre determine when the food will be distributed.

Year 6 Parents - 31st October 2019
The deadline for applying for secondary school places is fast approaching. Please ensure that you have registered for an online account and applied for a secondary place before this date. If you require any assistance please come into the office and see Mrs Kinchella.

County Lines Talk - Tuesday 15th October @ Broadford School-Time to be confirmed
The Learning Federation is hosting a presentation evening from Peter Wilson from the Metropolitan Police (Trident), regarding Child Criminal Exploitations and County Lines within Havering. This important information will assist with equipping members of the public and parents to be vigilant in supporting all children / young people regardless as to where they live. These talks have been very well received and are highly recommended for parents.

Tuesday 8th October- Mead netball team playing Broadford after school
Wednesday 9th October -Madagascar class are visiting the local Fire Station in the afternoon and we have a visitor coming into school to talk to year 5 about Junior Travel Ambassadors. We look forward to welcoming some pupils from Brookside infants who are coming to visit our farm animals in the afternoon. Some of our year 3 pupils will be attending a Forest School session in the afternoon.
Thursday 10th October- KS1 parents are invited into school for a reading workshop between 8:30 and 9:30
Friday 11th October -Kenya class are visiting the local Fire Station this afternoon


Autumn Term Parent Consultation Evening - Monday 14th & Tuesday 15th October
We are looking forward to welcoming all parents on Monday 14th & Tuesday 15th October for parent consultation meetings. You will have the opportunity to meet your child’s new class teacher and find out how they have settled so far this year. The teachers will also explain the expectations for the end of the year for your child.
Our Year 6 prefects will also be on hand to show you to the hall and asking parents to complete our annual parent survey.
Hopefully you have all completed the meeting request form-Appointments will be sent out next week.

We have now had confirmation that the underpinning of our KS2 hall will be completed by the beginning of December. Based on this, we are now able to organise our Christmas performances for week beginning 9th December. I will notify you of the exact dates in my newsletter next week, once I have consulted with my teachers.

Attendance Update
Well done to Mexico class who had the highest attendance in Y5&6 at 98.3% . Scotland had the highest attendance in LKS2 at 98.3% and Palau had the highest attendance in KS1 and overall at 98.4%. Well done to them!

Well done Ava!

Well done to Ava in Scotland for her fantastic achievement last weekend. Ava took part in the London Bridges Challenge where she walked over 12 famous bridges in London, in aid of a charity close to her heart, Diabetes UK. Ava completed the challenge in just over 2 hours, walking over 33000 steps!

Well done Ava, you are a superstar and are very inspirational to us all!
