Weekly Newsletter- 7th February 2020

Dear Parents,
We want our children to be in school as regularly as possible as we are aware of the positive impact this has on their education. However, as far as giving medication is concerned we are governed by the Policy produced by the Local authority.

SO -In line with the Havering policy we are unable to give medication unless prescribed by a doctor.

In the case a child has been prescribed antibiotics we will give it if it is required 4x daily but not 3x daily as this can be managed at home.

Parents requesting we give medication must go to the reception office where they will be required to complete a form.

If you think your child will need to take unprescribed medication during the day we are happy for you to come into school to give it. Sorry for any inconvenience this causes but we do have to comply with L.A. guidelines.

Weekly Newsletter -31st January 2020

Dear Parents,

We still have a number of pupils arriving late. I cannot emphasise enough the importance of getting your children to school on time-Remember the doors open at 8:30.
Pupils arriving late miss out on their learning and many find it embarrassing and really struggle entering the class halfway through a session.

Also please be advised I can not authorise holidays during term time. Whilst I appreciate it is cheaper, taking your child out of school for an extended period does have a negative impact on their learning and on our attendance data (which we are judged on by Ofsted).

Diary Dates
Monday 3rd February- 10:30-22:30 Some of our children will be attending the Young Voices event at the O2. Germany class are visiting the Tate Modern in London, while some pupils from the remaining year 4 classes attend bikeability sessions.
Tuesday 4th February- Italy class are visiting the Tate Modern today while some pupils from the other year 4 classes attend bikeability sessions. During the afternoon our year 5 pupils will be watching a Birds of Prey display in school. After school our netball team have a match against Harold Court Primary.

Wednesday 5th January-It’s Greece class’ turn to visit the Tate Modern today. Some of our year 3 pupils will be attending a Forest School session this afternoon.
Thursday 6th January-Some of our year 5/6 girls will be representing Mead at a football tournament at Noak Hill while the rest of year 6 pupils will be visiting Duxford.
Friday 7th January 9:00-10:30-Parents of our SEN pupils are invited to attend a coffee morning at Mead. Bikeability sessions for year 4 continue today.

Weekly Newsletter -24th January 2020

Dear Parents,

                                        Thank you!
We have seen a vast improvement in the number of children arriving late, and in the number remaining in school after their ‘home time’. However there are still pupils arriving late, after 8:55am, and we need a concerted effort from them/their parents please to ensure their children are not missing learning time.

Just to remind you!
Pupils can come into school from 8;30 but MUST be in for registration at 8:50.
Arriving late causes disruption to the classes and is distressing for the children who have to walk into the rooms after lessons have started.
Ofsted inspectors look at attendance and punctuality figures and these can have a negative effect on a school’s final judgement so please make an effort to ensure ALL children are in school on time.

KS1 pupils should be collected at 15:00 and KS2 pupils at 15:10 (unless they are attending a club). Unfortunately, if parents are late collecting their children from clubs I will have to consider if the child can continue to attend. In extreme cases I will refer to social care, as on occasions we are having to wait beyond the time we would normally go home for a parent/relative to collect a child.

Diary Dates
Wednesday 29th January-In the morning between 8:30 and 9:00 parents/carers of our year 1 pupils are invited into school for a stay and read session. In the afternoon some of our year 3 children will be attending a Forest School session.

Thursday 30th January- Our year 5 and 6 pupils will be watching a Road Safety performance in school. After school our football team have a match against a team from Harold Court Primary School.

Friday 31st January- During the morning Italy class will be attending public speaking workshops while our year 6 pupils will be visiting the War Memorial in Romford.

Weekly Newsletter- 20th December 2019

Dear Parents,

What a lovely week we’ve had in school. Our choir sang beautifully at the St Paul’s Christmas concert and despite the rain our carol service in the playground was well attended and the children did us proud. At times like this I am bursting with pride as I’m sure you are.

We have come to the end of a long term and I am sure that the whole school community is looking forward to a well earned rest. The staff certainly are after what we’ve had to put up with from those mischevious elves! Hopefully you’ve been able to follow the elves antics on facebook with your children-We have certainly had some fun this week!

It was lovely to see everyone supporting the children at their Christmas concerts. They certainly did us all proud. I am pleased to report that we raised the grand total of £1210 which we sincerely hope will help one of our local families through a very difficult time. On behalf of them thank you so much for your generosity.

On behalf of myself and all the staff thank you so much for your cards and generous gifts-I think some of us will be putting on a lot of weight over Christmas!

Dear Parents,
IT HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO MY NOTICE THAT CHILDREN ARE STILL RIDING BIKES/SCOOTERS ON SITE DESPITE MY REMINDER AT THE GATE EVERY MORNING!

THIS CAUSES CONGESTION, ESPECIALLY ON THE PATHWAY TO THE KS1 BUILDING, AND A NUMBER OF ACCIDENTS HAVE BEEN REPORTED- PLEASE ENSURE YOUR CHILDREN FOLLOW THE SCHOOL RULES AND REFRAIN FROM RIDING BIKES/SCOOTERS ON THE SCHOOL SITE.

This week is anti-bullying week and the theme is 'Change starts with us’
This year the goal is to inform schools and settings, children and young people, parents and carers to know that it takes a collective responsibility to stop bullying. Whether it is verbal, physical, online or in-person, bullying has a significant impact on a child’s life well into adulthood. By making small, simple changes, we can break this cycle and create a safe environment for everyone. Because together, we can challenge bullying. Change starts with a conversation. It starts with checking in. It starts with working together.

Pupils are invited to show solidarity with other schools across the country on 12th November by wearing odd socks to school and we will be planning activities across all year groups on this day.

We now know that there will be a General election on December 12th. I have been notified that the school will be used as a polling station and therefore, for safeguarding reasons we’ve decided to close. I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause working parents but trust there is sufficient time for you to make child care arrangements. Please be aware that Christmas concerts scheduled for this day have now been moved to Monday December 16th.

Congratulations to Karen howell who has been elected as the new Parent Governor representing Mead on the Learning Federation Governing Board. Thank you to the other candidate Nina Beyers for putting her name forward and to all of you who took the time to cast your vote. The final result was very close.

Weekly Newsletter-1st November 2019

Dear Parents,
I hope you have all had a good week’s break, spending time with family and friends, and that everyone is ready for what promises to be a very busy time as we approach the Christmas period.

On behalf of school and The Harold Hill food bank I would like to thank you all for your generous donations for our Harvest Festival, held earlier this week. It is gratifying to know that we are helping members of our local community.

It was really pleasing to see in the surveys, completed at the recent parent meetings, that the overwhelming majority of you indicated that you 'strongly agree' we deal well with bullying.

Week beginning 11th November is anti-bullying week and the theme is 'Change starts with us’

I have been notified that the school will be used as a polling station and therefore, for safeguarding reasons, we’ve decided to close. I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause working parents but trust there is sufficient time for you to make child care arrangements. Please be aware that Christmas concerts scheduled for this day have now been moved to Monday December 16th.

Sadly, Mrs Colak has had to resign from her role as Parent Governor due to work commitments. I would like to thank her for the time and support she has given us and wish her well in her new venture. We have had 2 nominations for Parent Governor and so are holding an election. You are able to vote for your chosen candidate by following the link on the blog/facebook. Alternatively you can come into school to cast your vote. The election closes next Friday 8th November at 12:00.

PLEASE ENSURE ALL FLU IMMUNISATION FORMS ARE RETURNED TO SCHOOL BY MONDAY 11TH NOVEMBER.
FORMS MUST BE RETURNED EVEN IF YOU DO NOT WANT YOUR CHILD TO BE IMMUNISED.
