Year 5 Book Art - 3D Sculptures

In year 5 we have been exploring book art. We gathered books that were to be recycled and instead  brought them back to life in 3D. We tried to show the personality or character of the book and kept loosely to the original story. We wanted to upcycle the book in a new, creative way.
Our project included  origami, folding, glueing, twisting and cutting paper, among other techniques.
It provided an exciting opportunity to explore transformation, with paper being a great material for exploring form.

Year 5 parachute experiment!

Following on from our lessons on air resistance, Year 5 have planned, carried out and recorded the results of a parachute experiment! Together we made 3 different size parachutes, moulded equal weights and timed each parachute as they dropped from the same height! Here's some photos of our scientists hard at work!

Year 5 RE

In RE this unit, Year 5 have been looking at why prayer is important for religious believers. Last week Year 5 looked at two prayers that are important to Christians and Muslims. The children compared the two prayers and looked at the similarities and differences between them. Then the children created pieces of artwork based on these prayers.
