Three boys from Brazil class represented our school in a Sports Challenge, competing against other schools. Well done boys! 

An amazing achievement for our Volleyball stars! We are very proud of you!

 

Ten Pin Bowling Panathlon 2021

We were fortunate enough to be invited to the annual Ten Pin Bowling Panathlon at Rollerbowl in Collier Row on Thursday the 2nd of December where we competed against 11 other schools in Havering. The members of our team were Joseph, Jacob, Daniel and Nicholae. We worked very hard and through our resilience and determination, we were able to secure third place. We were extremely proud of our Bronze medals. Daniel won an award for achieving the biggest amount of strikes and spares. ‘It was incredible and I cannot believe it!’: Daniel said after he was presented with his award. Everyone had a fantastic time and it was an event to be remembered.

Football's coming home!

To celebrate England's victory against Denmark on Wednesday, the children were allowed to dress up in red, white and blue clothing at school today. As you can see, everyone in year one made a fantastic effort! Come on England!!!

We are determined to not miss out on some of the more exciting events we hold at the end of year whether you are at school or at home. Our annual 'Sports Day' is no different!

Next week we will be virtually hosting a week of fun 'Sports Day' activities. With just a few household items you’ll be all be able to take part, wherever you are. We’ve chosen activities that don’t require lots of space or fancy equipment, and don’t involve contact between children. But you are welcome to change the activities to suit your situation, the only thing that matters is that you get active and have fun!

Every day, next week, we will publish 2 activities (with video guides to show you what to do) that you can do in your home, garden, at a park or at school. You will need to record your results in a grid, which we will post to our Facebook for you to print at home or you can draw your own!

To make sure you are ready, here is a list of equipment you will need (if you don't have the exact same thing then use your imagination!):

• Monday: markers (can be literally anything), tape measure or a ruler
• Tuesday: marker, a target (bucket, large saucepan, washing up basin, etc), throwables (small beanbags, balled up socks, or anything throwable that doesn't bounce much), a spoon (big enough to hold an egg), a hard-boiled egg (or small ball).
• Wednesday: random objects to make an assault course, sacks (pillowcase, bin bag etc).
• Thursday: space to dance, a music player, 4 markers, timer 
• Friday: an empty plastic 500ml water bottle, a table, a stick (short broom, cricket bat etc).

At the end of the week, you can submit your results to us and we will announce winners from each class. Make sure you take lots of photographs and videos to share with us, we can't wait to see you having fun! Stay tuned for more details to follow!

Sport Relief in Malta

The children in Malta class took part in the sponsored run for Sport Relief today. They were very excited. Gabby, Jacob and Joseph wanted to keep running! We were lucky to get back to class before the hail storm. Thank you to the children who raised money for this fantastic charity.

SPORT RELIEF REMINDER

Just a reminder that the children will be taking part in a sponsored run to raise money for Sport Relief on Thursday 12th March.  Could you please send in any sponsor money on the day of the run.

SPORT RELIEF 2020

On Thursday 12th March the children in key stages 1 and 2 will be completing a sponsored run to raise money for Sport Relief.  A letter will be going home today, along with a sponsor form. Please look out for it in your child's bag.

A big well done!

Congratulations to Jacob-Lee in Chile class for making the Havering school district football team. We are also so proud to have such a fantastic football player in our class.

Dance awards

Well done to Chloe in year 5 who has won many medals for dancing over the past few weeks. Her medals are for different types of dance including: ballet, tap and modern.

Tennis Trophy

Well done to Jacob in year 5 who won a trophy for showing resilience and good sportsmanship at his tennis club. Usually this award goes to older players but Jacob's excellent attitude towards his sport earned him the trophy this year.

Well Done Katie!

Well done to Katie in Scotland class for her dance achievements last weekend. She won medals for first place in both ballet and lyrical, and a trophy for best dancer. Keep up the fantastic work Katie!

Dear Parents,
I hope you have all had a good week’s break, spending time with family and friends, and that everyone is ready for what promises to be a very busy time as we approach the Christmas period.

On behalf of school and The Harold Hill food bank I would like to thank you all for your generous donations for our Harvest Festival, held earlier this week. It is gratifying to know that we are helping members of our local community.

It was really pleasing to see in the surveys, completed at the recent parent meetings, that the overwhelming majority of you indicated that you 'strongly agree' we deal well with bullying.

Week beginning 11th November is anti-bullying week and the theme is 'Change starts with us’

This year the goal is to inform schools and settings, children and young people, parents and carers to know that it takes a collective responsibility to stop bullying. Whether it is verbal, physical, online or in-person, bullying has a significant impact on a child’s life well into adulthood. By making small, simple changes, we can break this cycle and create a safe environment for everyone. Because together, we can challenge bullying. Change starts with a conversation. It starts with checking in. It starts with working together.

Pupils are invited to show solidarity with other schools across the country on 12th November by wearing odd socks to school and we will be planning activities across all year groups on this day.

We now know that there will be a General election on December 12th. I have been notified that the school will be used as a polling station and therefore, for safeguarding reasons, we’ve decided to close. I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause working parents but trust there is sufficient time for you to make child care arrangements. Please be aware that Christmas concerts scheduled for this day have now been moved to Monday December 16th.

Sadly, Mrs Colak has had to resign from her role as Parent Governor due to work commitments. I would like to thank her for the time and support she has given us and wish her well in her new venture. We have had 2 nominations for Parent Governor and so are holding an election. You are able to vote for your chosen candidate by following the link on the blog/facebook. Alternatively you can come into school to cast your vote. The election closes next Friday 8th November at 12:00.

PLEASE ENSURE ALL FLU IMMUNISATION FORMS ARE RETURNED TO SCHOOL BY MONDAY 11TH NOVEMBER.
FORMS MUST BE RETURNED EVEN IF YOU DO NOT WANT YOUR CHILD TO BE IMMUNISED.

Havering Catering Services

Week beginning Monday 4th November is week 2 on the Havering catering services menu. All meals are served with unlimited salad and vegetables and cost £2.25.

Please be reminded to top up your child’s catering account as we cannot provide dinners for pupils whose accounts exceed a debt of £10.

Havering catering Service now provide a breakfast club for Mead pupils. For £1.50 your child can have a bacon or sausage sandwich or beans on toast with cereal or toast or fresh fruit or yoghurt plus a drink.

We will also have speciality days when other items such as pancakes and muffins will be available.

In order for you to book a place you will need to deposit the money in advance in your Squid account.

Please do not send your child to school to attend breakfast club if there are no funds in your account as they will not be admitted.

Attendance Update
Well done to Mexico class who had the highest attendance in Y5&6 at 97.3% . Italy had the highest attendance in LKS2 and overall at a very commendable 99% and Kenya had the highest attendance in KS1 at 96.4%. Well done to them! The overall attendance was an improvement at 95.2% and much closer to our 96% target.

Dear Parents,
Our nursery children are all in school now and although it has been an emotional time for some of the children (and some of the mums!) I am pleased to see they are beginning to settle now and most are looking forward to coming into school.

URGENT-REMINDER
Please ensure that your child's Individual Asthma Action Plan has been returned to school with their inhaler, and spacer if required. Please also check that the inhaler is still within date. If your child requires an inhaler at school and you have not received the Asthma Plan letter, please enquire at the school office or ask your child's teacher to get one for you.
As a school, we recognise that asthma is a widespread, serious, but controllable condition. Mead School welcomes all pupils with asthma and aims to support these children in participating fully in school life.​

Autumn Term Parent Consultation Evening - Monday 14th & Tuesday 15th October
We are looking forward to welcoming all parents on Monday 14th & Tuesday 15th October for parent consultation meetings. You will have the opportunity to meet your child’s new class teacher and find out how they have settled so far this year. The teachers will also explain the expectations for the end of the year for your child.

Our year 6 prefects will also be on hand to show you to the classrooms and asking parents to complete our annual parent survey.

Attendance Update

KS1 did particularly well this week with New Zealand having the best attendance overall at 99% and Australia a close second at 98.8%-Very well done to them. The overall attendance was better at 95% -I am hopeful that next week we’ll be even nearer to our 96% target!
