As part of their 'Healthy Me' PSHE topic, the children have had lots of fun learning about different fruits and vegetables. They tasted some strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, grapes, baby corn, cucumber, red and green peppers and tomatoes. Lots of the children tried things they hadn't had before and mostly enjoyed them! In D and T the children designed their own fruit salad recipe for a restaurant before making and eating their creation. They also used iPads to film each other, making a YouTube style video as part of the computing unit 'We are TV Chefs'. Well done year one - you have been working so hard.

Mental Heath Awareness Week in Year One
This week the children in Year One have been learning what mental health means and how it is important to keep our minds healthy as well as our bodies. We discussed what we could do if we are feeling sad, anxious or angry. We also talked about believing in ourselves and realised that we are all amazing in our own way. Here is some of the work produced by the children:

Year 6 PSHE
In PSHE, Year 6 have been studying the unit ‘Dreams and Goals.’ The pupils discussed what problems there are in the world. They listed issues such as war, famine, poverty, natural disasters, crime, discrimination, deforestation, global warming and many more. The pupils were challenged to create an event, which could be held at school, to fundraise for one of these causes or charities. The groups had many creative and inspiring ideas - ranging from a 80's themed run, to a Mead bake-off, to a charity football match, to a pop quiz. After a class vote, three ideas will be presented to the School Council to make one idea a reality...

Year 6 PSHE
This term in PSHE, year 6 have been learning the topic 'Celebrating Difference.'
We have explored issues such as what is normality, what are the consequences of normality and discussed important issues such as prejudice and discrimination. Year 6 have understood how people can have different lifestyles and experience different events- which we celebrate.
Jharini in year 6 said "PSHE has helped me to be more confident in myself."
Deon in year 6 said "I know that every is equal, even if they might be in different from us."
In the upcoming weeks, as part of the Celebrating Difference unit, we will be looking at disability. Please could you ask your children to research a famous, inspiring Paralympic athlete, so that the children can share their successes with the class. Merits and certificates will be awarded for the best research.
Many Thanks
Miss Pountney
