Year 1 Tea Party!

Year 1 have been learning about British Monarchs like Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II in history. We learned about their families and lives while on the throne. We discussed that a way people celebrate royal events like jubilees and coronations is by having a street party. Yesterday we had our own tea party to show what this is like. We wrote invitations to invite our families and friends to the tea party and made amazing crowns to wear. In literacy, we have also been reading the Queen's Hat and wrote our own story, The King's Hat, imagining that the King came to Mead to join in with our tea party. Luckily, the sun came out and we all had such a fun afternoon.

Thank you to all the families that came and brought delicious treats!

Something strange in the neighbourhood (Year 3)

Something strange was going on in year 3 today. The classrooms were taken over by some monstrous creatures. Year 3 have been reading Wolves in the Walls as part of our literacy unit this half term. We have enjoyed reading the story, however we haven't enjoyed being left waiting to see what would happen next. Today we discovered that the wolves were having a party, so we decided that we should join in with them. Everyone enjoyed the chance to have some popcorn and fruit as well as dancing to the music.

Year 1 learn about Florence Joyner.

Year One have been looking at biographies this week during our Write Stuff lessons. We learnt about Olympic record breakers Wilma Rudolph who won three gold medals for USA during the competition in 1956 and Florence Joyner who broke the world record for the fastest 100m sprint in 1988. We then went to the hall to see how fast we were at sprinting ourselves. In class we also imagined that some of our class had won bronze, silver and gold medals and how that might make us feel, Excellent work year 1.
