Year 2 Experience Day

As part of our English learning, the children had the opportunity to smell different sweet items such as caramel syrup, waffle cones and a range of sweets. This was to help them think of exciting words to include in their writing such as scrumptious, sugary and tempting.

Remembrance Day

In year 3 we we have been remembering those who died fighting for their country in wars around the world. The children have been learning about what it would have been like to be a soldier in the trenches in the First World War and wrote diary entries and letters from the soldier's perspective.

Year 3 are Authors!

The year 3 children have been working on their first independent write of the year.  We have been reading the brilliant book 'The True Story of the Three Little Pigs' by Jon Scieszka.  The children wrote an alternative version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.  They all worked very hard and, as you can see below, we have some budding authors in our midst.

Year 5 are Passionate Poets

Well done to Alexis, Zachary, Jake and Victoria who were selected to go to a more able writers day at Brentwood Preparatory school. Here they met poet Philip Wilcox who is a full time published poet and a poetry slam champion. The children got to flex their writing skills and learn how to become better poets. We were informed that the children were excellent ambassadors of our school and even the poet himself commented on their excellent writing skills.

Mexico Class Editing

In our English lessons, Year 5 have been writing a continuation of the story of "The Snowman".

Today, the pupils in Mexico class had to edit their work. This is a really important stage for the development of their writing. They worked in pairs to find and correct spelling and punctuation errors. I was so impressed with how they worked collaboratively with their partner to improve their work.

Poetry in Italy Class

This term year 4 have been looking at an edited version of the poem “Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou.

The children have taken inspiration and created their own poem about overcoming adversity. They developed their writing skills by focusing on metaphors, similes, rhyme and repetition.

Here are some of the children’s fantastic poems.
