A home for all

Here is a wonderful poem we learnt this week in our poetry basket session called "Mrs Bluebird".

The children put on an amazing performance and definitely looked the part in their Easter hats!

Year 3 go back in time!

The children in year three were very lucky to receive a visit from the fabulous Hobgoblin Theatre Company today. First we watched a crazy show called Prehistoric Park, which as well as being hilarious, consolidated our learning on The Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age. We then took part in a brilliant drama workshop, which was lots of fun.

Easter in the Nursery

We have had great fun this week in the Nursery, doing a whole range of Easter related activities.

                                                 Easter colouring and cutting

Chocolate nests

Easter egg and chick hunt tray

Making sparkly Easter eggs

Making Easter cards

We loved making play dough chicks.

Going on an egg hunt

Wolves in the wall

This half term Year 3 have been reading Wolves in the Walls in English and learning all about writing suspense stories. We had great fun recreating our wolf party, spending the day with our comforting cuddly toys and finding out how Lucy and her family dealt with those wolves!

We then wrote our own suspense stories with a brand new character suffering with snakes or crocodiles invading their home! Here are some examples of the fantastic work we have produced this half term.

Drum roll for this week’s year 2 Star Writers...

Congratulations to Stephanie from Madagascar, Rayan from Egypt, Charlie from Kenya and Mahir and Kyrah from Morocco. Amazing efforts this week, well done to you all!

Weekly Newsletter - 31/03/23

Dear Parents and Carers,

It’s hard to believe that we have arrived at the end of another term so quickly! We hope that you have a safe and enjoyable Easter. Thank you all for your continued support throughout this term.

Lunchtime Meals Price Increase

We have been informed by Havering catering services that the price of a school meal will rise to £2.45 after Easter. Please see letter sent via Ping from Havering Catering Services with this information. You may be eligible for Free School Meals which you can check and apply online here https://www.havering.gov.uk/info/20006/schools_and_education/431/school_support

Safer Streets Scheme

Many parents have been asking about the Safer Street Scheme to improve the safety of children being dropped off at the start of the school day and collected at the end of the school day. We are working with Havering and hoping that we will be eligible for this support to keep all of our pupils safe.

We have spoken to the children this week about how to cross the road safely. There are also some things that parents and carers can do that will help to keep the children safe. Please consider parking further away from school and walking the rest of the way and if walking make sure that the children know how to cross the roads safely. Please always park considerately and avoid blocking the view of pedestrians and other car users.

Changes to Lunchtime

This week we have been trialling a new structure for lunchtimes in readiness for the Summer Term. The children and staff have been extremely flexible to help us find the right structure that ensures that the children have the support that they need throughout lunchtimes. There was some confusion over water bottles being allowed in the dining hall and we have clarified with the children and staff that water bottles can be taken to the dining hall.

Our School Curriculum

Please take a look at our school website to see what your children are learning https://mead.havering.sch.uk/mead-curriculum/ here you will find all of the information about each subject and information for each year group. You will also find lots of photographs of the children participating in different lessons on our facebook page and our school blog in the latest news section of our website.

Parent View

We would love to hear from you. Parent View is a tool used by OFSTED to measure parents' views of school. It is a short survey asking you to rate the school against a few statements.

We would really appreciate it if you could do the following:

Go to: http://parentview.ofsted.gov.uk/ and click on the "Give Your Views Now"

Firstly, it will ask you to register and then a password will be sent to your email quite promptly which you will need to log in and complete the survey.

Please take a few minutes to help reflect your views and your support for the school.

Cloth, thread, paint, pastel: Landscapes

In year 3 art, we have been learning how artists combine art and crafts using painting and sewing together to make art. We also thought about how to add further detail using oil pastel. We learned that when we use the different media we can use their unique qualities in different ways to build an image.

We explored different aerial footage of natural landscapes and used them as inspiration for our own landscape art.

We painted cotton fabric, sewed stitches as marks, added detail in oil pastel and finally make a frame to display the finished pieces.

The finished artwork is amazing and shows what talented artists there are in year 3.
