Year 3’s new topic is earthquakes. To start this topic children worked in groups to make a structure which could withstand an earthquake. They only had two resources to make this structure; marshmallows and spaghetti. Pupils had to be resourceful and think about how they could use these materials to make a sturdy structure.
“It was really hard, but my group worked together and we managed to build the tallest structure which could withstand the earthquake!” Matty, N.Ireland.
“We found it easier once we had given everyone in our group a role.” Kiyah, N.Ireland.
The following week, pupils used Oreos to make the tectonic plate boundaries and illustrate the movement with these.
Year 3’s learning challenge shall help pupils during the coming weeks in class and we are looking forward to seeing these projects come into school.
