Last week we had a 'Survival Challenge' week! We saw 3 groups work together to
create a home for the night and think about what else they might need to
survive. All of the dens were waterproof - a big sigh of relief as the rain aka
watering can arrived! The children created their own fire pits, cooked roast
chicken, made plates from large leaves. They also thought about weapons got
protection with one group having a workshop area while others made their own
pretend television to watch and created a hand of golf. So many great ideas.
There were some great reflections at the closing of
this week's session! The children used a sundial made from a stick and paracord to
identify their feelings about different parts of the session:
How did you feel
before forest school started today?
How did you feel when you thought we weren't going to play a game?
How did you feel about starting a fire?
How did you feel when making an arrow using a sheath knife?
How do you feel now forest school is finishing today?
It's really helpful to think about how we feel in different situations and how we respond. The children made a good start to reflecting on their feelings.
