Read below for our weekly
Forest School diary.
Week 1
Courageous climbers explored the forest school site today. Tree climbers were everywhere discovering trees to climb that have not been explored in this way previously. The confidence and team work evident was fantastic and inspired others to join in. A fantastic start for a new group of forest schoolers!
Week 2
Rain and wind filled our session today but that didn’t put the children off. Lots of digging, den building, sea saw making and tree creating took place as the rain continued to fall. Fantastic teamwork inspired flags to mark the various creations!
Week 3
Dens were popping up all over the place today! Tarps and ropes were put to good use while others continued to create dens using what the woodland provided. We even had a forest school estate agent!
‘I build dens and then sell them to my friends,’ she said.
Others prepared for spring by planting done seeds.
We brought some odd socks along to the session today and suddenly the children were making horses and of course a unicorn!
Others focused on reinforcing the protection of their planted seeds, using wood as hammers and bright wool as a warning.
It is fascinating to see how the children are using their imagination. We are very lucky to have such creative children at Mead School.
Week 5
How will you survive the night in the woods? Today’s challenge set to the Year
3 pupils. Dens were constructed, fires were built, weapons were made (bows and
arrows being the most popular) and toilets were dug. Some groups discovered
food options while others looked for creature comforts, for example a broom to
keep their den clean. Everyone was well prepared for a night sleeping in the
woods but it was a bit chilly so we came back in!
