Year 5 West Ham Health and Fitness Programme

Year 5 pupils participated in a 6 week health and fitness programme with West Ham coaches in the Autumn term. In weekly 1 hour sessions they covered:
  • Benefits of breakfast 
  • Healthy teeth - how to look to after their teeth 
  • Understanding sugar and appropriate intake 
  • Eating a balanced diet 
  • The importance of physical activity
  • Love your kip - explaining the benefits of sleep 
These sessions have been partly class based, which always included important learning objectives, and also partly physical activity outside. The children have benefited from these interesting sessions about important health issues facing society today and these topics have complemented their current curriculum.

Pupils eagerly looked forward to their West Ham sessions each week and children from Canada class commented, ‘Wow, I never knew how much sugar there was in the food I eat. I must watch out,’ and ‘the West Ham coaches make the sessions fun and exciting for us.'
