EYFS - Christmas story around the fire

Reception had a very festive afternoon listening to Christmas stories around the firepit whilst munching away at delicious gingerbread men.

The children listened, wide eyed, to tales of Father Christmas and thoughts of him visiting on Christmas eve while the fire gently crackled away.

`That fire is so beautiful`
Lexi
`The gingerbread man is so nice can I have another one`
Sebastian.

It was great to see the children listening carefully to the stories,  being very careful to stand back from the fire and enjoying each other's company.

We believe in creating a wide range of memorable experiences for the children while they are with us at Mead. Developing their empathy, self control and patience is vital for their longer term success, in both life and school. These moments around the firepit show that they are able to be absorbed in a sustained activity. It also develops their language skills as they hear and respond to the stories being told.

Of course it also make a difference when you have delicious snacks to eat as well!
