American Musicians Visit Year 5

Decoda, a trio of musicians based in New York who specialise in 20th Century music, came to Mead to run workshops for Year 5 and deliver a unique performance.

The workshops were based around the music of George Crumb, an experimental composer who explored unusual ways of making sounds on instruments. Pupils could not believe the ways the musicians made sounds in unconventional ways on their instruments. The musicians took their instruments apart and explored many interesting ways of making music.

‘He made exciting songs on the piano, while telling a story. This was a really new and interesting experience.’ Tatiana Hakeem (Year 5)

‘It was really good because when he played the piano it created a beautiful picture in my mind.’
