Early Years Foundation Stage Newsletter

Mead Primary School Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Newsletter
Date 19.09.2016
Last week was a fantastic week getting to know our new Reception children. It was lovely to see how happy and settled they were and how well they started to get to know their new school friends. We were very impressed with the sensible way that the children listened to stories and responded to daily routines. We thank you parents for ensuring your children were so prepared and ready for school.
The children were so excited to see the large sand pit under construction. It was wonderful to see them mimic the building work through their play. We are hoping the sand pit will be completed this week.
This week the children will continue coming part time with the morning children having a taster lunch on Thursday and the afternoon children having a taster lunch on Friday. The children may bring their lunch from home in a packed lunch box or have a hot dinner from our dinner menu. From Monday 26th September all children will attend full time and have a packed lunch or a school dinner every day.
We hope you enjoyed sharing your child`s first book and practicing their key words. The children were so excited to take their books home and setting aside a little time each day for reading will be sure to accelerate your child`s progress. A love of books is a wonderful thing.
Please ensure your child has a P.E kit in school as soon as possible as they will start to have their weekly P.E sessions from the week of 26th September when all the children are in full time.
The main focus of our activities this week will be early activities to find out what the children know and can do. We will be asking the children to draw a picture of themselves and attempt to write their name. We will also be observing the children during their play and making notes of their interactions.
Please ensure your child`s clothing has a name in it so we can help the children to identify their jumpers and coats. With the variable weather the children may need to take their jumpers off to feel comfortable.
Look out for messages and pictures on the Mead Primary School face book page and the Mead Primary School website. Please remember to speak with school staff if there is anything you are unsure of or you have any concerns.
We look forward to working with you and your children
