Dear Parents and Carers,
It may have been a short half term but we have packed in so much learning throughout the school. All of the children have worked extremely hard, especially in Phonics. Thank you for coming into school to share the children’s learning with them during the showcases, Apologies again for having to postpone the Year 3 showcase. We will be setting a date for the next half term and will share that with you in advance.
Just as a reminder we are closed tomorrow for Good Friday and the children will return to school on Tuesday 16th April. The children have had a surprise visit from the Easter Chick today, you'll have to scroll down to find out more! Have a great break, see you soon.
Thank you and Goodbye
This morning, every single child and member of staff at Mead, gathered to say a huge THANK YOU and goodbye to Sandra Clarke. Sandra has been the lollipop lady at Mead for 32 years and in our eyes she is an unsung hero and it was important that we told her so. Not only has she been there every morning and afternoon to safely see the children over the road but she has built so many strong relationships with the community. Sandra asked the children to repeat after her- Remember to wait for the green man!
Attendance
Today we have given out 429, 95% or above attendance certificates! This is a huge improvement for our attendance awards and we wanted to say thank you to you all for your continued support.
Additional Classes and Staffing
This week we have made the parents and carers in Year 2 and 4 aware that we were approached by the local authority to accommodate an additional class in Year 2 and Year 4 after the Easter break due to an overwhelming demand for school places in the local area. Mead was approached because we have the space to accommodate the additional classes due to the building work that was completed in 2021. To support this increase in children attending, Mrs Panesar will be joining Year 2 after Easter and Mrs Hillyear and Miss Bergasse will support in Year 4 as additional teachers. As our school continues to grow, we are also very happy to share that our newly appointed Deputy Headteacher, Mrs Wagstaff will join Mead on Monday 3rd June. Mrs Wagstaff is an experienced Deputy Headteacher with a wealth of knowledge and experience working within Havering and will support Mead in providing the best possible experiences and support for all of our children.
Bookmark Competition
We are thrilled to announce our exciting 'Make Your Own Bookmark' competition for all children at Mead Primary School! This will give the children an opportunity to showcase their artistic talents while promoting a love for reading. Children may use any materials they wish e.g. paper, card, lolly sticks, or 3D creations.
Children need to bring in their bookmarks by Thursday 18th April. Please ensure that your child's name and class are clearly marked on the back of their bookmark.
There will be a total of 5 winners selected. Each winner will receive a £5 voucher to be used at our upcoming Book Fair, scheduled to take place at the school between 23rd April and 29th April after school.
Remember, the more you spend on books at the fair, the more books the school will receive as a reward. Every purchase contributes to building our school library and supporting literacy initiatives.
Attached, you'll find some images to inspire your child's creativity. Let their imagination soar as they design their very own bookmark masterpiece!
We can't wait to see the incredible bookmarks! Thank you for your continued support in fostering a love for reading.
