Weekly Newsletter - 1/3/24

Friday 1st March 2024

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to school. This week we have had visitors in school who have come to see how well the children are learning in Maths and Phonics. The children have been engaged in learning and have shown an incredible amount of progress since September and the feedback from the visitors has been fantastic. We have also received lots of wonderful feedback about year 4 and how well they have conducted themselves on their school trip to the British Museum. Members of the public were very keen to share with the adults about how well behaved the children were. Well done to Year 4, a great start to this half term!

Parents Evening

It was lovely to see and welcome so many of you to parents' evening this week. I hope that you enjoyed seeing how much progress your children have made across this year so far!

Start and End of the Day- Ball games.

Ball games are not permitted at the start and end of the school day. There have been a number of incidents where children have been playing ball games when parents and children are walking across the playground and they have been hit with the ball. Anyone playing ball games whilst waiting for the door to open at the start of the day or waiting for older KS2 siblings at the end of the day, will be asked to stop playing to ensure the safety of all children, parents and carers.

As a reminder, the use of the playground equipment outside of the school day is the responsibility of the parent and carers.

Friends of Mead- Mothers Day Sale

The Friends of Mead will be having a Mothers Day sale on Wednesday 6th March next week. All gifts are £2 and the children will have the opportunity throughout the day to choose a gift for Mums or someone special. Any additional items will be on sale in the KS2 (junior) playground until 3:30pm on Thursday 7th March.

World Book Day

As part of our drive to maintain, promote and engage pupil interest in reading, the school is taking part in WORLD BOOK day on Thursday 7th March. Children are asked to come into school dressed as their favourite book character. You can join us in building your child’s enthusiasm for books well beyond World Book Day by reading together regularly and joining your local library if you are not yet a member. For more information about World Book Day, ideas for World Book Day costumes and ideas on sharing books at home, visit worldbookday.com.

Year 6- Secondary School Places

Year 6 parents will receive an email after 5pm this evening, to inform you of the secondary school place for your child. Pupils attending schools in other boroughs such as Essex will find out before.

Changes to sQuid

We have been informed by Havering Catering Services that they are moving to a different payment system. From 3rd June, SQuid will no longer be in use and we will need to move all payments to a different system called Parent Pay. Parent Pay is more user friendly than SQuid but we know that this change, especially for a school of our size will take some time. We will be sending out further correspondence from Havering Catering Services and also offering some support sessions ahead of moving over to the new system. This will mean that Information and letters will only be sent via School Ping so please make sure that you have access. If you require any support for School Ping, please contact Mrs Parker, Senior Admin.

Showcase and Stay and Learn session

We are looking forward to seeing you at the stay and learn or showcase sessions that are coming up this half term. These sessions aim to share the learning that has been taking place over this term and also share ideas and tips for how you can support your child at home. Please see below the dates and times. We look forward to seeing you!
