A roaring day in reception

This week in Reception, we are learning all about dinosaurs.

To support our learning, we had a dinosaur expert came in to talk to us and show us some real dinosaur fossils. We learnt why dinosaurs became extinct and the children had the opportunity to be real palaeontologists, discovering and examining the fossil specimens. Maisy commented "fossils are bones and teeth".

The children had the chance to showcase their dinosaur knowledge, with Lexi explaining to her friends that “plant eating dinosaurs are called herbivores” and “those which eat meat and plants are omnivores”, Arsalaan said “carnivores eat meat”.

Using the posters to inform her exploration Lucille identified that she had found a ‘footprint’ and Karl discovered a ‘baby dinosaur head’.

If that wasn’t exciting enough, we then had a visit from Mia a 6 week-old triceratops and Sophie the T-Rex! Some of us were even brave enough to pat her! D'arcy kept asking for more dinosaurs and Roman and Maryam said "I love dinosaurs".

The children might even share this interesting fact that dinosaur poo is called ‘coprolite’.

Layla summed up our day, “this is awesome!”.

We would like to say a BIG thank you to Steve and James from the education group.
