Reception Newsletter Spring 2 Week 1

Term: Spring 2  Date: 20.O2.17

Dear Parents,

We hope you had a wonderful half term break and we look forward to seeing all our children back at school tomorrow. We had a wonderful half term learning about traditional tales. The children really immersed themselves in the stories and it was wonderful to see the development of their story telling as they joined in ,performed and added these stories into their role play. The food angle was also very popular creating their own gingerbread man, making bread like the little red hen and tasting porridge like the 3 bears and Goldilocks. This half term we will be learning about dinosaurs and on Thursday we have a special Dinosaur day. Look out for more details in a blog later in the week. The children have been reassessed and may be in different Read ,write Inc groups. These support the children at the stage they are at with learning their phonics. We can clearly see the children making good progress in their lessons. In maths this week we will be looking at counting and ordering numbers to 20.

Please ensure your child has their P.E kit in school for Tuesday and a spare set of clothes on their peg in the event that they get wet and need to change would be very useful. Please encourage your child to practise dressing and undressing at home as there are still quite a few children who need a lot of support. Please name all hats and scarves as the children are not always sure which one belongs to them. Lunch is from week  3  of the Havering Catering services this week .
We cannot emphasise the importance of reading at home . The book marks have now arrived in school so we have now rewarded those children that read the most regularly with book marks so PLEASE spend some time helping your child, they really will reap the rewards. St Lucia Class did really well before half term and became the week`s winners but we clearly noticed more children reading across the year group  so who will be this week`s winners?

We would like to welcome Ms Allen to St Lucia class. Many of the children already know and love Ms Allen as she has been working elsewhere in the school but we are so delighted to have her joining us in St Lucia class.

We now have an Early Years email address so if you have any enquiries or you are working and unable to meet with class teachers you can contact staff more directly the address is:-

Kind regards

The Reception Team
