Reception celebrates Chinese New Year

Last week Reception learnt all about Chinese New Year. We immersed ourselves in local traditions, making chinese money wallets and lanterns; listening to traditional chinese music and watching Dragon dances which the children thoroughly enjoyed. We even attempted to write some chinese symbols and practised writing numbers 1-10 in mandarin After listening to the story of the 'Great Race' children learnt which chinese zodiac animal they were born under (Rabbit or a Dragon) and the characteristics these animals demonstrate. To end our learning about Chinese New Year we tantalised our taste buds by trying some Chinese food, with some children even attempting to try sweet chilli sauce, hoisin and sweet and sour sauce to dip their prawn crackers in. Overall prawn crackers appeared to be the the winning choice of food as lots of children asked for seconds!
