An explosive start to the week for year 3!

Northern Ireland class had a very explosive start to the week, when they erupted their model volcanoes this afternoon!

Last week the children built their volcanoes from plastic bottles taped to cardboard. They scrunched newspaper up to build the shape, which they paper-mâchéd over. The children looked at pictures of volcanoes to help them paint their volcanoes in realistic colours.

Today, using bicarbonate of soda, vinegar and red food colouring, the children were able to represent the lava coming out of an erupting volcano!

Year 3 will be studying volcanoes for topic this term, so this has made them very excited! (See the pictures below, to see their reactions!)
