Freshwater Theatre group visited us last week. The children had fun engaging in a historical drama workshop exploring the events of The Great Fire of London. Through drama they recreated life in Pudding Lane in 1666. They became the fire as it quickly spread across the city and they explored the reasons for this. Then they thought about how this event changed London and how it helped develop the fire service we have today. During literacy and within the session we also looked at diaries written by Samuel Pepys and how they have helped us understand what it was like then. The work shop was a great way to involve the children in history and it helped them remember key facts.
Ruby reflected on what she had learnt and said,
'I never knew people had to pay to get on the boats on the River Thames to escape the fire.'
