Natural Selection in China
In today’s science lesson, year 6 conducted a “best beak” experiment. The children simulated a bird feeding by using different shaped “beaks” to collect food and place it into a stomach. It was discovered that certain shaped beaks could not feed as well as others. The children quickly realised that not all birds would thrive and live long enough to reproduce and therefore the species could become extinct compared to the birds that had beaks which picked up more food. This experiment allowed the children to see the process of natural selection in motion.
