History in Year 1

Year 1 have been learning about the Gunpowder plot in history. They have been discussing the main events of the plot, the reasons why the plotters wanted to kill King James I and the location of the plot. In today's lesson the children discussed the different artefacts that have survived to this day including Guy Fawkes' lantern. The children then made their own lanterns which they really enjoyed making!

Adventures in forest school continues

It was another busy morning for Reception at forest school this morning.

We practised using our gross motor skills to climb through the trees and practice parkor on the logs.
We made lots of different art using chalk, mud paint, stencils, feathers and sticks in the mud.
There was also some excellent digging and mixing in the mud kitchen and lots of buckets rides up and down for the soft toys.

Hands, Feet & Flowers

In year 1 art, we have made a layered piece. First we printed on old cardboard boxes using our hands and bright coloured paints. Then, we drew outlines of flowers in black pen using photographs for inspiration. Finally, we smudged chalk into the backgrounds. Fun and beautiful!

Year 5 Music

Children in Year 5 are currently working  on the recorder tune called ''Five note Samba''. This tune has 2 parts and requires to play five notes confidently: D', C' B, A and G. The practice of the first part is going well so far.

Year 3 Music

Children in year 3 are working currently on the recorder tune called ''Hot and cross''. This tune requires them to play three notes:B, A and G. Listen to Scotland class practising hard.

Bayeux Tapestry- Week 1

In year 3 art, we have begun a project responding to an artwork from another era. In the first week after half term, we drew in detail sections from the Bayeux Tapestry.

The Bayeux Tapestry tells the epic story, in wool thread embroidered on linen cloth, of William, Duke of Normandy who became King of England in 1066 after the Battle of Hastings.

Here is part of the tapestry:

Here are selection of our drawings:

Mead Singers

Yesterday Mead singers visited the Paines Brook Court - a local retirement home. The children sang some Christmas songs to the residents who thoroughly enjoyed the performance. It was so nice to share the Christmas spirit with others and children cannot wait to be back at Paines Brook Court next year.

Scotland Class Get Fit!

Scotland Class had lots of fun taking part in an activity circuit with the sprinter Victoria Ohuruogu earlier this week.  They were also treated to an extremely inspiring assembly where Victoria talked about her journey as an athlete and how her patience and perseverance paid off when she achieved her goal of winning the British Championship this year over 400 metres.  Maybe we have some future athletic champions in Scotland Class!

Using shapes in the Nursery

The magnetic shapes are very popular.

We are learning to balance the blocks to create some fabulous models.
This is  "...a Tree house Daddy."
Recreating and continuing patterns with the pegs. This also helps our fine motor skills.
