Year 3 - Forest School - Week 8
Year 3 have been asking about making whistles so we gave it a try. We used a range of tools - loppers, draw saw and a mora knife. We began by identifying an Elder tree (5 leaves on 1 stem) cut down the required branch and then followed the different steps to create the hole for the air to pass through. The children listened carefully about how to use the various tools and showed great focus as they worked on their whistles. We couldn’t manage to get a great sound out of them but the children learnt lots in the process. Others were busy making elder beads into bracelets and necklaces, we lit a few fires and played lots of creative games. It was a packed afternoon.
