Super Rugby Team

Mead Primary were delighted to represent Havering at The London Youth Games (LYG) this month. Having won the Borough Tag Rugby competition, our team earned the right to travel to Crystal Palace to take on the next stage of the competition.

The team played really well and I am extremely proud of them. They managed to win their first two matches, but then came some hard games against Richmond and Hounslow. In the end we finished mid table - which is very respectable as we only have 2 club players in the squad.
Mr Robinson - PE Coach

Our Tag Rugby team have benefitted from the Elite Sports programme that is run during term time. Pupils who show an aptitude for a particular sport are given extra coaching to prepare them for the competitions... and the hard work is clearly playing off.

I was very proud to represent Havering. The other teams were very good, so to win a match was great. It has made me want to practise more so that we can come back for the athletics.

What are the Youth Games?
The LYG are Europe's largest youth sports festival. It is now a season of events taking place over 9 months including both School and Community Competitions across 30 different sports. The competitions are part of the national School Games Programme.

School Competitions are organised locally by School Games Organisers, with the London finals hosted by LYG. For more information see our dedicated School Games page.

Open competitions enable the most talented young people in each London borough to compete to become champions of London.
