Bug mania comes to Reception......

This term in Reception our topic is ‘Growing and changing’ and to help us get this topic under way we had some visitors in the form of mini beasts come to school today. We got to meet a range of bugs; including a green stick insect, an emperor scorpion, an Australian green bean insect, a pink wing leaf insect, some Madagascan cockroaches and even a millipede with no less than 280 legs! The children had an opportunity to share their minibeast knowledge: "An insect has 6 legs" Lara, "Spiders have 8 legs" Bogdan and when asked if an insect was green an it is on something green what we would call that, Katherine exclaimed "It's camouflage"
All the children were extremely brave with lots of them jumping at the chance to hold the minibeasts, getting up close and personal even letting them crawl over them!

If that was not enough excitement we then spent the afternoon looking for our very own minibeasts in our outside area. We became bug detectives hunting under logs, looking on leaves and digging in soil to see what bugs we could find.

It is safe to say we had a 'Bugtastic' day and we would like to thank Martin for coming and sharing his knowledge with us!
