Year
5 have investigated
a variety of breads including: baguette, pitta, naan, soda, sourdough, granary and
chapatti. They were evaluated according to characteristics such as taste and
texture. The baguette was a clear favourite and sourdough was by far the least
popular.
The children also learnt how
bread products are an important part of a balanced diet.
Then came the first baking week and as a class, we made a basic white loaf. They learned about the different
ingredients- why and how they are included, and the basic techniques for making
and shaping the dough.
The children then
designed their own bread roll for an event; including additional ingredients
and the shape of their choice.
Nura said “My bread was
soft and fluffy inside.”
Peter shared his with his
family, “They all said it was delicious.”
