Reception celebrate Diwali!

What an exciting start to the term we had, introducing our new topic "Celebrations and Patterns" by learning about the Hindu celebration ‘Diwali’ which means festival of light.

The children were shown the story of Rama and Sita and how good triumphs over evil. We got to create our own rangoli and mehndi patterns, writing about Rama and Sita and to finish off our learning by tasting some Indian food.

Most children 'had a go' at experimenting with the different tastes and were able to talk about what they liked and disliked. Katherine was heard saying how "delicious" the rice smelt, Sumad commented "I like the vegetable samosas". Tommy in St Lucia class said "I like the rice the best" and Alfie was heard saying "My favourite was the poppaoms". Jeffroy said the rice was "yummy" and Zoha shared with her class "I eat naan bread at home". The most popular foods were the Naan bread and Poppadoms with children clearing their plates and even asking for seconds and thirds!
