Dear Parents,

Thank you to the parents who attended the Parent’s Forum on Wednesday morning. It was good to share some of the exciting things planned for the next few terms with you and I hope you found the information about the Read, Write, Inc and Literacy and Language schemes useful.

I would also like to thank the YR 5/6 parents/carers who attended the Mersea information meeting earlier in the week. It sounds as though the children have a really fantastic few days to look forward to!

Miss Highton and Mr Frith have asked me to remind you that the medical/information forms distributed at the meeting need to be returned to school a.s.a.p.

Mead Farm Project
As you are probably aware we already have a number of chickens in school and we are proposing to develop the area between the KS1 and KS2 buildings over the next few months to create a small farm with the addition of goats, sheep, pigs, ducks and rabbits.

Yesterday some representatives from the school council went to Wellgate Farm to visit some very special goats. The two little kids and their half sister Paige will be calling Mead School home after the summer holidays. The children got to spend a lot of time with the baby boys, who are only three weeks old, their sister and two other goats. The children enjoyed looking after the babies for the morning. They were mucking out the stable and bottle feeding them. Then they got to play with them in their paddock. The children can't wait for the stables to be built at school. Currently the kids do not have names. 'I want to call them Star and Stripe' commented Amba, 'But I think they should be called Nibble and Chew' said Jan. Their names will be decided at a later date.

Music Award
Well done to Jessica Shorter who passed her Grade 1 Piano exam with a merit this week.

Diary Dates
KS2 SATs tests next week 8th May-It is important all year 6 pupils are in school for that week and that we are informed every morning if your child is unable to attend so, if possible, we can make alternative arrangements for them to take the test. We are encouraging year 6 pupils to attend breakfast club from Monday to Thursday (at no cost) so they can socialise with their friends and hopefully have a good, relaxing start to the day, prior to taking the tests. KS1 SATs will start the following week-w/b 15th May.

Thursday 11th May- Our year 1 pupils are visiting Tropical Wings
Friday 12th May-17:00-late- LFPA Race Night at Mead

Well done to Canada class who had the highest attendance in Y5&6 last week at 97.1%. Germany had the highest attendance for LKS2 and overall at 98.1% and Australia the highest attendance in KS1 at 96.6%. The overall attendance last week was an improvement on the previous week but still less than our target.

Yours sincerely
