Weekly Newsletter - Important Information

Friday 10th January 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

Happy New Year and Welcome Back! As we returned to school this week, our assemblies have focused on the theme of the New Year, with a particular emphasis on hope. We’ve encouraged the children to think about the opportunities ahead and the positive changes they can make in their learning and friendships.

We also took the opportunity to remind the children of our Mead Creed: being READY, RESPECTFUL, and SAFE. These values remain at the heart of everything we do at school and help us work together as a supportive and thriving community.

Here’s to a fantastic half term ahead!

Adverse Weather
As the colder months continue, please ensure children are dressed appropriately for the weather, including suitable clothing for break and lunchtimes. Hats and gloves are recommended. As shared earlier this week, should we be in a position where we have experienced significant snowfall, a decision to open or close the school will be made by 7:30am, and you will be notified via SchoolPing, the school website, and our Facebook page.

Attendance and Punctuality
A reminder that the school gate closes at 8:45am. Mrs. Corless sent out a reminder this week. Please familiarise yourself with our Attendance and Punctuality Policy.

If your child is unwell or unable to attend school, please inform us as soon as possible using one of the following methods:

  • Calling: 01708 343616 (press option 1)

  • Emailing: mail@mead.havering.sch.uk

  • Visiting: the School Office

Head Lice Reminder
We encourage all parents and carers to regularly check their children’s hair for head lice and take appropriate action if needed.

Reminders for Next Week

  • School Census and Winter Wonderland Lunch
Next week, we have our school census. Havering Catering is offering a Winter Wonderland-themed lunch on Thursday. Remember, all children are entitled to a free school meal through the Mayor’s Meals initiative. The more children who participate, the more financial support our school receives, so we encourage as many pupils as possible to enjoy the special menu.

Upcoming Events

  • All before and after school clubs will begin next week. This includes Boosters for academic support. If your child is attending a club or booster you will have received a letter.

  • Parents Evening will be taking place on the 4th and 5th February this half term. Further information will be shared with parents and carers over the next few weeks.

Support for Parents and Carers

Applying for Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium payments are additional funds for pupils which go directly to schools. Applying for Pupil Premium could grant schools an extra £2,010 per eligible pupil which could further help the schools. That’s more money for extracurricular activities, teacher development, and support for children who need it most. This will also ensure you’ll receive other benefits you may be entitled to, like food vouchers during the holidays. It’s easy to check eligibility and apply, just click and use this link. Please note that this service is only available to Havering residents

Thank you all for your continued support and partnership.

Kindest regards,

Ms A Holmes

Headteacher
