Reception Newsletter Autumn 2 Week 8

                                                                                                                        15.12.19

Parents/Carers

We hope you are enjoying your weekend so far!
Thank you to all of those who were able to make our Christmas performances, we hope you enjoyed them as much as the children. They did such an amazing job and made us all so proud.

Thank you as well for all of your donations in celebration of Christmas jumper day.

Even though we are coming into our final week, we have a busy 5 days ahead. Jamaica and St Lucia will be visiting Lidl on Monday and Barbados class will follow Tuesday. On Wednesday we will visit St Paul's church and have our very own Christingle service. We will also be having our class parties this week and any donations of food would be greatly received by Monday. We may even get a surprise visit from Father Christmas himself.

This week we will be reading a range of Christmas stories and having activities set up within the classrooms around this theme.

Our class lending libraries are now up and running, some of your children may have brought home a story book from school to read and share at home with you on Friday. We kindly ask that once your child has finished with their book, they return it to school where they can then choose another story to read.

Over the Christmas period could we please ask you to actively encourage your child to dress/undress themselves independently showing them the correct way to put on their clothes and to also practice learning how to put on their coats correctly. We still have a lot of children who are reluctant and apprehensive in developing this life skill and we would greatly appreciate you helping to develop their confidence.

Here are some handy tips to help:
  • Involve your child in learning the order of the dressing as early as possible.  Sing songs about dressing, talk to your child about dressing, play dressing up games and practice dressing dolls or teddies.
  • Talk about the order of dressing when you or your child are dressing.  Ask questions e.g. “What goes on next?”
  • Lay clothes out in the order they should be put on.  This is usually easier if you lay them out in a line rather than putting them on top of each other.
  • Use a visual sequence chart
  • Practice, practice, practice!  Give your child opportunities for practice every day.
  • If your child makes a mistake help them to work out what went wrong and how to fix it rather than telling them and sorting it out for them.   Sometimes you need them to complete the whole process so that they can work out what went wrong. If they put their trousers on without their pants let them dress completely and find the pants at the end.  You can ask questions to help them figure out what went wrong.  You can compare what you do with what they have done.  You can have them look in the mirror to work out what is wrong.  Direct them back to their visual sequence if they are using one.

As a reminder the school day begins at 8.30am and for safety reasons the gates need to be shut by 8.50am. In the mornings the children need to walk through the main gate and enter through the Reception area doors.  If you arrive after the gate has closed, you will need to enter the main office where you will be recorded as late. At 3.00pm Gate 1 will be open for parents and the children will be released through the Reception area doors.

School Uniform Reminder -

Please be reminded that children are expected to continue to wear the appropriate uniform of:

  • Black or grey trousers (Joggers in Nursery)
  • White polo shirt with a bottle green jumper or cardigan
  • Black shoes or plain black trainers (no boots)
  • Black or grey skirt/dress
  • Plain tights

Children will not be permitted to wear Hoodies.

Only plain school coloured head bands can be worn- no oversized bows.

Only studs can we worn in school, please make sure these are removed for PE.

Please ensure children do not have makeup on or acrylic/painted nails.

Uniform will be given to those children who do not wear the correct uniform in the morning and will need to be returned before the end of school.

Polite reminder - If your child has had a change of clothes from school, could you please ensure these are washed and returned to school before Friday.

We thank your continued understanding and cooperation in leaving pushchairs at the door. Some of our children are asking to come into school independently and we appreciate you encouraging your child to with this.

As we have learnt all of our set 1 sounds, this week we will be consolidating our learning, practising correct letter formation and continuing to use our Fred talk to spell CVC words.

In maths this week we will be continuing solving addition and subtraction problems, recognising and ordering our numbers with a Christmas theme.

Your child will continue to bring home a reading book (which is changed weekly) and a set of sight words. The expectation is your child reads at least 3 times or more each week. As we are promoting a love of reading, we encourage your child to read a range of books and is not limited to the one we send home with them.

We will be using the Havering school menu which the children bought home. This week we are on Week 2 of the menu. Monday’s choices are:

Red - Beef Burger in a Bun with Potato Curls

                                 Blue - Cheesy Tomato Pasta
Green - Quorn Burger in a Bun with Potato
                                Curls
