Festive fun in Reception

What a busy few days the children in Reception have had so far this week, with trips out to parties and Christmas dinners.

It all started with us heading off to our local supermarket Lidl to purchase what we needed to make our Christingles. The children all did such a fantastic job of locating the items within the store, then using the money they were given to purchase them. We took them back to school, learning about what each thing symbolises and then set about creating our Christingles, D'arcy commented "the orange is the world".

Today we headed to our local church St Pauls where we were greeted by Russell. For many this was their first experience of being inside a church and the children demonstrated their impeccable listening skills as Russell delivered the service.  Russell spoke to the children about advent and 'how it tells us something is coming', Maisy commented "Christmas day". The children then had an opportunity to share the Christingles they made, lightening the candles and recalling the importance of their representation. We learnt about what each part of the Christingle candle represents:
·        the orange symbolises the world
·        the ribbon is a symbol of the blood of Christ
·        the four sticks represent the four seasons and the sweets represent Gods’ good gifts throughout the year
·        the candle symbolises Jesus the light of the world.

Before heading back to school, the children got to recall the nativity story with some children helping to act it out. It was a lovely morning and a great opportunity for the children to fully immerse in our 'celebrations' topic.

We would like to extend our thanks to Russell for having us visit.

St Pauls church will be having a Christingle service on Tuesday 24th December at 4pm if any of our families would like to attend.
