Dear Parents/Carers
We hope you are all having a lovely weekend so far. We had such a busy week at school last week
with a visit from Pudsey, edible fireworks and making junk model fireworks. The children learnt about Guy Fawkes and explored the sounds and colours of fireworks.
Thank you to those parents that attended our stay and read sessions and/or our reading meeting. We cannot emphasise enough how important reading at home is and we are so grateful for those parents that are working hard to support their child on the road to being a reader.
This week we will be focusing on anti bullying week and looking at the importance of being a good and kind friend. On Tuesday the children will be taking part in a friendship workshop and can come into school wearing odd socks.
Wednesday is National kindness day and the children will be focusing on the good friendships that they have already developed.
Our focus story is Elmer by David Mckee, Elmer tells the tale of an elephant who sticks out, both with his patchwork and his sense of humor, and how he and his community learn to accept and value his unique characteristics
On Monday 11th November-Parents/carers/Grandparents are invited to join us at 10:40 for a short Remembrance service in the KS2 playground. We look forward to seeing you there.
As a reminder the school day begins at 8.30am and for safety reasons the gates need to be shut by 8.55am. In the mornings the children need to walk through the main gate and enter through the Reception area doors. If you arrive after the gate has closed, you will need to enter the main office where you will be recorded as late. At 3.00pm Gate 1 will be open for parents and the children will be released through the Reception area doors.
We thank you again for your understanding and cooperation in leaving pushchairs at the door. Some of our children are asking to come into school independently. We thank you for helping encourage your child with this.
We will continue with our phonics programme, teaching the sounds v,sh,y,w. At the end of the week the children will bring some practise formation sheets. Please try and make some time to help your child with this formation. Learning to write is a tricky skill but an important one.
This week in maths we will be learning about pattern .This will include looking for patterns in the environment and using 2 dimensional shapes to create patterns.
Your child will continue to bring home a reading book (which is changed weekly) and a set of sight words. The expectation is your child reads at least 3 times or more each week. As we are promoting a love of reading we encourage your child to read a range of books and is not limited to the one we send home with them. Well done to Barbados class who won the reading award this week.
