Diwali Delights

What an exciting week we have had in Reception! As well as the excitement of Halloween, we have also been learning about the Hindu festival of Diwali. As part of our explorations of how people across the world celebrate this special time, the children had the chance to taste a variety of Indian food.

Many of the children were interested and enthusiastic about trying the new flavours and textures. The poppadoms in particular went down very well; with Stanley commenting "Mmm these are yummy!" and Logan saying "The poppadoms are my favourite". The samosas proved popular, if a little spicy, Shay exclaimed "I need some water - my tongue is on fire!"

Isla enjoyed the mango chutney, saying "it tastes sweet". Trying the food of another culture prompted the children to speak about their own experiences with the food as well as highlighting different likes and dislikes among their peers.

All in all, it was a tasty and rewarding experience, summed up nicely by Charley who said "that was nice, that was!"
