Christingle Symbolism

Pupils at Mead Primary School today enjoyed a special, festive Christingle assembly, and learnt about the significance of each part.

Two pupils from every class had the privilege of lighting a candle on their orange and taking their place on the stage. We all enjoyed a breathtaking moment of darkness, where the only light shining was from the pretty, sparkling candles.

Many thanks to Russell and Andrew for leading this seasonal event.

Don't forget children, if you want to keep your over-excited parents or realtives busy, bring them along to the Christingle Service at St Paul's Church, Petersfield Avenue on Saturday 24th December at 4pm.service

What does the Christingle represent?
Each piece of the Christingle holds special symbolism to help children understand the importance of Jesus and the Gospel, and its relevance at Christmas time.
  • The orange represents the world
  • The red ribbon (or tape) symbolises the love and blood of Christ
  • The sweets and dried fruit represent all of God’s creations
  • The lit candle represents Jesus’s light in the world, bringing hope to people living in darkness
