People who help us experience day in Reception

As we enter into Autumn 2 our topic focus in Reception will be "People who help us". To enhance the children's learning and provide them with an opportunity to meet some real life "heroes", we will be having an experience day. On Friday 4th November the children will meet a paramedic, fire fighters, police officer and a nurse. We will have a chance to find out some interesting facts about each profession as well as have our questions answered and even explore a fire engine!

As part of our experience day the children can come to school dressed as what they would like to be when they are older. Thank you to all those who have already started to discuss this with their child in preparation for Friday. Throughout the day we will have an opportunity for the children to discuss what they would like to be and why with their peers.

People Who Help Us Day Round Up

On the day

Children can come to school dressed as what they would like to be when they are older.

They will have an opportunity to meet some professionals and hear about their jobs.

Year Three's Mandir trip

Just before the half term break the year 3 children had the opportunity to consolidate their learning on Hinduism with a visit to the Radha Krishna Temple.  They received a very warm welcome and also learnt a lot. The children found out that Hindus believe in one God, Brahma, and that Brahma has many forms.  They also learnt that the purpose of life for Hindus is to achieve four aims, called Purusharthas. These are dharma, kama, artha and moksha.  Finally the children were told about why and how Hindus celebrate Diwali. Thank you to everyone at the temple for a very informative morning.

Year 3 and 4 TTRS Battle

This week year 3 and 4 are battling it out to see who can score the most correct answers on TTRS. Who will be the winning class? You are also battling to be in the top 3 high scorers of each class. You have until Friday 4th November.

Good Luck!

Wales Attendance Rewards!

Wales has worked hard on their attendance, which has seen them meeting their target for the past few weeks. The children were lucky enough to enjoy cupcakes for one of their rewards. The previous week when we rolled the dice, Wales landed on a treasure hunt. We made our pirate eye patches and sung the pirate song, before setting off following the signs and clues to find the jewels. We then traded the jewels for real, chocolate treasure.

Well done Wales!

Egypt Attendance Rewards

Egypt has worked hard on their attendance which has seen them meeting their target for the past few weeks. The children were lucky enough to enjoy cupcakes for one of their rewards. The previous week when we rolled the dice, Egypt landed on an extra art lesson. Egypt explored warm and cool colours and how they can be used as a contrast to help make parts of their pictures stand out. They chose from a butterfly, a fish or the sun and moon. The class showed that their art skills are better than Miss Gibson’s. Have a look at some of the children’s pieces of artwork. Well done Egypt on your attendance achievements.

Marvellous me day in Reception

This half term our topic focus has been "Marvellous me". We have discussed our families, our likes and dislikes and talked about ourselves. Today the children in Reception had a WOW day to celebrate the end of our topic and  they had an opportunity to showcase their individualities and celebrate what makes us, us.

Reception certificate winners

Well done to all of our certificate winners in Reception this week. What superstars you all are, keep up the good work!

Forest school for Antigua and Jamaica Class

At Forest School this week we went conker crazy! Jamaica and Antigua learnt to use a conker holder and palm drill to make holes through conkers! Great for hand eye co-ordination and strengthening those growing fingers. We threaded them to make bracelets and spiders. We also played conker rolling, using gutters and pipes to explore angles and speed. All the children are developing their spatial awareness and risk assessment skills practising carrying big sticks safely! Can you remember what to do? "If a stick is longer than your arm, put one end in your hand, the other end on the floor and drag it along!" A great time out in our wild woods.

Reception perform another poem

Reception got to perform another poem they learnt this week from their poetry baskets sessions. Please enjoy our version of "Leaves are falling".

'We're Going on a Pumpkin Hunt'

Nursery have loved listening to and joining in with, the story, 'We're Going on a Pumpkin Hunt'. We have enjoyed lots of fun activities based on the book.
