Year 2 Fire Station Fun!

On Thursday the year 2 children visited the local fire station as part of our topic work.  They had great fun finding out what it is like to be a firefighter.  They looked around the station and found out how the firefighters train and what equipment they use. This meant they saw the gear room with all the protective clothing and the training areas, including the gym. There was a real car inside the station that was used to help the firefighters learn how to cut people out quickly if they are trapped inside.  Some of the children were given the opportunity to spray the hose and sit in the fire engine.  Unfortunately, this was cut short when the watch had a real shout and zoomed off with their blue lights flashing.  This made the trip even more exciting for the children.

Back at school we were linking our learning to how the fire service has evolved.  A service that wasn't around in 1666 during the Great Fire of London. The children have learnt how to value such an important service .

'I thought it was going to be boring but it was brilliant' said Jovan.
'None of our experiences are boring' said Mrs Rolph.
