Wow – what a fantastic first week we have had in Jamaica
Class! It has been so wonderful getting to know all the children so far, and
particularly special to watch as they start working together and forming
friendships.
The children are settling in well to their new environment
and accessing the activities which such enthusiasm. The playdough table
has been particularly popular with children making all kinds of ‘delicious’
treats for one another. Our supermarket role play area has been equally busy,
with children acting out being both shop assistant and shopper. Janisha
welcomed children into the supermarket: “Come
in, come in to our shop!” and Tommy alerted shoppers to “watch out for my trolley!”. The children have also been taking
part in daily carpet sessions where we have been learning each other’s names
and sharing stories.
Outside, the children have been equally conscientious
explorers! Especially enjoying the big climbing frames, Amelie squealed "Look at me! Look
at me". The treehouse has captured many of the children’s imaginations as they
climb higher and peer through the tree-top canopy. "Maybe it’s a Gruffalo that lives here" said Tilly, "Can’t get me!" shouted Luke.
What a pleasure it was to end our week on a high with a visit
to the school farm. The trip prompted so many comments, questions and
conversations among the children. "That
must be the ducks’ home” said Ty, "I
like the horsey!" said Riley. Some of the children were even brave enough
to pet the goats!
Well done, Jamaica Class!
