Reception Newsletter Autumn 1 - 15.10.17

Term: Autumn 1                      Date: 15.10.17

Dear Parents/Carers,

We are coming to the end of our first half term and the children have all done a fantastic job settling into their new setting and routines. Thank you to everybody for their continued cooperation with leaving buggies outside. This has made the access in the corridors much more manageable. Our school day begins from 8.30-8.45am with a 3.00pm collection time. Please do not crowd the doors at the end of the day and as soon as Teachers have seen you they will hand your child over to you. The children`s safety is our priority.

We are back to Week 2 of the Havering School Menu please remember to go through the choices with your child:
    Monday
Organic pork sausages with oven baked diced potatoes
Baked salmon with a herb crust and oven baked diced potatoes
Homemade vegetarian bolognaise with 50/50 pasta

Each week we will provide you with a newsletter.  The purpose of this newsletter is to keep you up to date with any relevant news in Reception.  It will include a list of intended learning objectives, an overview of activities, the learning challenge (which we will not commence until the second part of the Autumn term), notices, important dates and the stories and topics that we will be focussing on.
We hope you had a chance to see some of the blogs we have posted over the last few weeks. Please remember to check these regularly for updates.

We will be continuing our story ‘The Rainbow Fish’ by Marcus Pfister this week. The children have enjoyed sharing and talking about what makes a good friend and we will be recapping our Rainbow fish workshop which the children thoroughly enjoyed and participated in fully on Friday.

In maths this week we will be continuing to work on our maths programme ‘Ten town’, which is a programme used to introduce numbers and help your child to accurately form them with an accompanying rhyme. We will also be carrying out activities within class consolidating your child's number and quantity matching.

The children have been enjoying our Read, Write, Inc lessons and are beginning to recognise their initial sounds. We will be teaching the next four sounds in our Read, Write, Inc lessons, these being g,o,c,k. To help consolidate their learning of these sounds at the end of the week we will be sending home some letter formation sheets for them to practise with.

The learning objectives will be listed under these headings:

Personal, Social and Emotional

Can select and use activities and resources with help
Shows confidence in asking adults for help

Communication and Language
To follow directions
To use talk to connect ideas

Literacy
To sometimes give meanings to the marks they draw and paint
Listens to and joins in with stories

Physical Development:
Runs skilfully and negotiates space
Mounts stairs, steps or climbing equipment

Mathematics
Beginning to recite numbers in order to 10
Knows that numbers identify how many objects are in a set

This newsletter will be posted on our EYFS blog and Facebook page at the beginning of each week.

Messages.
With the weather changing it would be really useful if the children had a pair of wellington boots in school and also a spare pair of clothes.

After half term we are asking for all children to have their PE kits in school. Please ensure all items of your child's kit is labelled with their name and in a bag.

Rewards Strategies
Just so you are aware we follow a whole school approach to behaviour management, incorporating the 4 R’s which can be found on the school website along with the values.  To ensure the system is age appropriate we use a happy and sad face within the Early Years.  To ensure a close partnership we will work with you if your child keeps finding their name on the red face.
