Reception Newsletter-Autumn 1 08.10.17

Term: Autumn 1                      Date: 08.10.17

Dear Parents/Carers,
The children have settled so well into school life and are coping so well with the introduction of our phonics programme and our maths programme. Thank you to everybody for cooperating so well with leaving buggies outside. This has made the access in the corridors much more manageable. Thank you to all the parents who attended our first Stay and Read session .We will be running these monthly and will try and vary the day to make it accessible for as many parents as possible. Thank you also to the parents who attended our Read, write Inc session. We were very pleased with the amount of parents who attended. Our school day begins from 8.30-8.45am with a 3.00pm collection time. Please do not crowd the doors at the end of the day and as soon as Teachers have seen you they will hand your child over to you. The children`s safety is our priority.
We are back to Week 1 of the Havering School Menu please remember to go through the choices with your child:
    Monday
Beef Burger with oven baked potato wedges
      Homemade fish pie
Vegetarian country baked burger with oven baked potato wedges

Each week we will provide you with a newsletter.  The purpose of this newsletter is to keep you up to date with any relevant news in Reception.  It will include a list of intended learning objectives, an overview of activities, the learning challenge (which we will not commence until the second part of the Autumn term), notices, important dates and the stories and topics that we will be focussing on.
We hope you had a chance to see some of the blogs we have posted over the last few weeks. Please remember to check these regularly for updates.

Our story this week will be ‘The Rainbow Fish’ by Marcus Pfister. This is a lovely story about the importance of sharing and friendship. We will be talking to the children about what it takes to be a good friend. We will be making fish out of CD`s ,adding a range of sea creatures to our water trays and working on some number matching activities. On Friday we have a theatre group visiting the school who will bring the story to life for the children.
In maths this week we will be continuing to work on our maths programme ‘Ten town’, which is a programme used to introduce numbers and help your child to accurately form them with an accompanying rhyme.

We will also be teaching the next set of four sounds in our Read, Write, Inc lessons, your child will be learning the following sounds t, i, n,p. To help consolidate their learning of these sounds at the end of the week we will be sending home some letter formation sheets for them to practise with.

The learning objectives will be listed under these headings:

Personal, Social and Emotional

Can select and use activities and resources with help
Shows confidence in asking adults for help

Communication and Language

To use talk to connect ideas

This newsletter will be posted on our EYFS blog and Facebook page at the beginning of each week.

Messages.
With the weather changing it would be really useful if the children had a pair of wellington boots in school and also a spare pair of clothes.
Please also remember to check the Parent Notice Boards outside your child’s class as these are updated regularly.

Rewards Strategies
Just so you are aware we follow a whole school approach to behaviour management, incorporating the 4 R’s which can be found on the school website along with the values.  To ensure the system is age appropriate we use a happy and sad face within the Early Years.  To ensure a close partnership we will work with you if your child keeps finding their name on the red face.
