In year 1 art, we started the year drawing the characters from the story Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy. The children listened to the story and drew the characters from the descriptions given. They used their imagination and created beautiful dogs!
We were focusing in our first few lessons how to use pencils in different ways; to create textures.

Then we explored using pastels and chalks in different ways to draw spirals, and snails. We noticed how we use our fingers, hands, wrists, arms and shoulders when drawing!

We also drew careful observational drawings of shells which were very difficult because of the intricate detail. We explored the patterns and lines on the shells before drawing them using sketching pencils.
