Year One met with Mrs Johnson who has been awarded the British Empire Medal for services to education as part of the New Years Honours list this year. Mrs Johnson worked as a teaching assistant at a local school for an amazing 53 years! She now comes to Mead Primary to support the children in year one with their reading. The children learned about her life, where she grew up, what it was like going to school during World War Two and what she did during her years working at school and all the children she has helped. The children prepared lots of questions to ask her and listened beautifully as she answered them. Many thanks to Mrs Johnson for coming in to talk to us!
