Weekly Newsletter- 10/09/2021 - Important Information

Dear Parents and Carers,

Y6 Secondary School Open Evenings (this is a message from the Schools Admissions Department)

Given the current concern around Covid-19, some Havering Secondary Schools have taken a decision to amend/cancel the initially published open evening arrangements. Please visit the schools website or contact them directly for the latest open evening information. Some schools have indicated that these events may now need to be pre-booked to allow schools to control numbers and some have taken a decision to only hold a virtual open evening. In all cases where parents are allowed on school premises, appropriate PPE and social distancing measures will be required.

ABACUS Breakfast Club

Application forms are available via the ABACUS breakfast club each morning or from the school office. The breakfast club is located in the Dinner Hall via the KS2 playground. Parents must escort their child to the door for each session.

Updated rewards system

Golden Certificate
Within the classroom, we use a “traffic light” system (gold, green, yellow, red) which is linked to The Mead Creed (set out below). For children who make exceptionally good choices linked to The Mead Creed, they may be moved to gold. If they remain on gold at the end of the school day, we contact the child's parents to let them know that they have enjoyed an excellent day; we know how lovely it is for parents to be told about their child making positive choices in school. We also present the child with a Golden Certificate in Celebration Assembly on Friday.

The Mead Creed
  1. Follow instructions.
  2. Speak and listen politely.
  3. Work quietly, stay on task.
  4. Use kind hands, kind feet and kind faces.
  5. Look after our property and environment

Where a child makes a poor choice and finish the school day on red, we will contact the parent to explain what had happened. At the start of every day, all children start on green.

Team Points
Each child is a member of the red, blue, yellow and green team. Team Points are awarded for positive behaviours around the school and are by all staff members in a range of places (e.g. assemblies, corridors, playtime, lunchtime). Pupils earn team points for their team and the weekly score is shared in Celebration Assembly with the winning team having the trophy and team colour displayed for the week.

Class Marble jars

Class teachers agree with their class on one focus for every half term and is linked to something the class needs to be better at (e.g. clearing away at the end of a lesson, getting quickly changed for PE). When the class achieves this target, they are awarded a marble. Once the marble jar is full (it needs 30 marbles), the class votes on a 1 hour lesson of their choice.

Achievement Certificates
Stickers are awarded for children’s Achievement Book for personal achievements, (academic, sporting etc). Once the children have completed their Achievement Book, they are awarded a certificate in Celebration Assembly and receive 10 Team Points for their team.

Star Writers, Star Readers and Star Mathematicians
Children who have completed some fantastic learning will be awarded a certificate in Celebration Assembly.

Mathletics Award
Children who have completed a level in their Mathletics are awarded a certificate.

Attendance-opoly

Each class has an attendance target for the year which is 0.3% higher than their attendance from last year. At the end of each week, any class who has beaten their target get to roll a dice in Celebration Assembly and may win a class prize. We are launching this from next week.
