Year One's Marvellous Medicines!

In their history lessons the children in year one have been learning about Mary Seacole.  Mary Seacole was a real life hero who overcame adversity to help soldiers who were sick or wounded in the Crimean War.  The children have been comparing modern medicines with those that Mary Seacole would have given to her patients.  This week the children made their own natural remedies using ingredients such as lemons, ginger, mint and thyme.  Some of them even tasted their medicine! As well as being great fun, this activity gave the children a deeper understanding of what it would have been like when Mary Seacole was alive.
"We used ginger in our medicine for a sore tummy" said Amaliah.
